House Extension Project
In 2018 we completed a project for a family in Doncaster which involved the demolition of their existing conservatory and re-building a full-width extension onto the rear of the house. This included removing the walls into the old kitchen and dining room and opening it up into one big room, which can now be enjoyed by all the family and is great for entertaining.
This was a very complex job that involved a lot of steel work being installed, so time had to be spent to ensure that the work could be carried out safely and without causing damage to the existing house. After a site visit with the Structural Engineer, Steel Fabricator and customer, we came up with a plan on how to install the steel within the confinements of the working area available.
The family can now enjoy an open kitchen/diner and entertaining spaces with sofas and a television, which is great when family and friends are visiting. The family also decided to link the inside to outside by having an 8 meter sliding door.
This project took approximately 14 weeks from start to finish and all the work inside and outside was carried out by Nu Build.
Key Elements of this Building Extension Project
We completed the majority of this project ourselves, as we like to with all our projects. However there were elements of the work which where carried out by specialist contractors so a lot of planning and liaising went in to ensure that the job could run smoothly and on time.
The work we did on this extension project included:
- Demolishing the existing conservatory
- Digging out footings and building the extension using block work
- Installing drainage
- Fitting a traditional flat timber roof which was to be cladded (by others)
- Plastering
- Joinery
- Electrical alterations inside and outside
- Plumbing and heating alterations
